1940 Ala Spessa

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on several of the special aerodynamic bodied Le Mans cars created by Carrozzeria Touring with what Anderloni called “ala spessa” (thick wing) design. Specifically the 8C2900 and 6C2500SS Alfa Romeo’s plus a good friend who discovered the BMW 328MM coupe that won the under 2.0-liter class at Le Mans in 1939 (and 5th overall) along with the outright win at the 1940 Mille Miglia (Brescia Rome).

Upcoming I will build a variant for myself and have accumulated (thanks to customers over the years) the era correct mechanical and drivetrain parts. Of course I can’t leave anything alone when it comes to design! This is more what I would build as I like the thicker lower body (below beltline), shorter engine bay and skirted rear wheels of the BMW 328MM; a midsize nose overhang; and the lovely long berlinetta tail of the Alfa’s.
